πŸ—ΊοΈ Thoughts on life, the universe, and everything

I love to explore how systems work. Whether it’s a computer system or ocean ecology, I want to know how the different parts work together, why a system thrives or struggles, and what factors could impact the system.

But it’s not enough for me to understand how something works. I want to share knowledge with others and encourage people to learn and grow. My motivation comes from my parents, who were both teachers (automotive and art). From my parents, I learned that it only takes one encouraging mentor to radically change the direction of a person’s life.

It’s important to me that knowledge and education should not be accessible to everyone. My goal is to lower barriers to knowledge. When I experience a challenge or barrier, I create a smoother path for others. When I’ve reached a high point in my career, I map a path to leadership for the next generation.

I thrive in a collaborative, open environment. I want to use my skills and passion to build something bigger than myself. I value open communities that focus on topics like open source, open data, open science.

  1. Hi! About the license you use for your photos, I understand that CC-BY-NC prohibits the non commercial use of a photo you made, but not of a derivative work based on it. If you intended to do so, I believe you should have used a CC-BY-NC-SA license.

    1. Thanks for catching that, Fabio! My photos in my Flickr stream are already marked as CC-BY-NC-SA, but the blog post was inaccurate. Fixed now.

  2. Dear Ms. Sharp,

As a newbie to Ubuntu and oldie to IT – I was surfing th’ Interwebz when it was punch cards an’ paper cuts- sadness at your having to flee the Linux Dev community. The behaviors you cite are wholly unprofessional, unnecessary and upsetting, even from a distance. It would not surprise me in the slightest if you get further pushback for putting the issue out there rather than constructive thoughts on mitigating the problem. Best to you and Mr. Sharp and hope good things come of this.

  3. Hi Sarah,

as a Linux and FLOSS enthusiast, I just want to thank you so much for your awesome work and contributions. The world needs people like you and I hope your experience with some people will not make you leave the FLOSS community entirely.

    All the best!

    Dan

  4. Hi Sarah,
Sorry to hear about the issues with Kernel Dev .. I agree with you.
I don’t care if a dev or maintainer has an IQ of 600 and eight fingers on each hand – inappropriate behaviour is unacceptable.
Keep an open mind about FLOSS communities – most of them are not like this ..
